How to cook well - Raymond Blanc

Postby Dena » Sat Jul 06, 2013 12:37 pm

A new series with Raymond Blanc starts on BBC 2 on Tuesday 9th July. The review is really good. It says - "Masterclasses using recipes and techniques from the most straightforward to the hautest of haute."

Im the excerpt I saw it looked better than the Roux Masterclasses, so I am keeping my fingers crossed :crossed

Lovely name for him Sue.

To me he seems to be one of the most natural of them all on TV. I watched him on one show when he was beating the whites of eggs or something similar, he lifted the whisk out of the bowl to show how it should look and didn't hold the whisk over the bowl. Of course it fell off and not in the bowl, he thought it was so funny and just in case we hadn't noticed, he pointed it out.

Hi Dena

We both watched last night's programme and M said he felt almost inspired. I really was!

Saw it again this morning, what a lovely man and as you say Joan, how inspiring.

Roasted pineapple def on the menu now :thumbsup

Does anyone know (I can't find out anywhere) if there is going to be a book about the series. If there is I would love to buy it for one of my grand-daughters (of course I would have to check it out first  ).

Hi Dena

I searched for a book too to use the voucher I eventually used for Rick Stein's India.

There doesn't seem to be one but all the recipes are on-line. I want the book though :(

Apart from a good teacher, he has a lovely accent, hasn't he :thumbsup ? I bet he is a perfectionist and quite tough on his assistants though!

In the market on Saturday I had to turn round when a customer at one of the stalls, clearly excited by what was on offer, did a brilliant "Ooh La la la la" - I honestly thought it was Mr Blanc.

Mamta, because he is self-taught I suspect that he is not a shouty chef. Strict yes but shouty I don't think so.

I am just watching an episode I recorded. Basically about smoking - what a truly delightful man he is. It is obvious how well he gets on with his staff, they are always smiling when he talks to them.

I went for lunch at Le Manoir on Monday for my mum's 85th birthday. Raymond was having a business lunch at the next table and chatted to us! He also signed a menu for mum. He is even more charming in the flesh!! Magic1 Magic1 Magic1

The whole thing is such an experience. The house and the gardens are out of this world and the food is to die for. The staff are magnificent too.

It takes a long time to save up for though. :?
