I'm so relieved they haven't messed about with GBBO format, Mel & Sue were on top form.
Loved it when Sue referred to PH as "that angry man with the expensive blue contact lenses" in her intro.
A good first show, but I hated some of those huge OTT 'small' cakes, the small simpler ones were good though.
Nancy looks very experienced, & I liked the old Scottish gent (Norman?) & the young girl (Martha?) is one to watch I reckon.
Looking forward to Jo Brand's 'Extra Slice' on Friday.
The married couple doing 'Sweets' were on This Morning a couple of weeks ago, they were very funny.

I 'll try "Sweets" - I see Sweets Made Simple is produced by Melanie Jappy for Screenchannel Television.
Remember Melanie used to post on the BBC boards> She has a good track record (Simon Hopkinson, Raymond B.)
My friend and I are awaiting a programme fronted by John Whaite from GBBO; he was presenting live at a Foodie Festival and we thought he was being groomed for presenting duties - she had never seen GBBO but was actually quite impressed by him, said she'd watch him on TV

Richard Osman's Ode to The Great British Bake Off.

Sue, the only Melanie I remember from the beeb board was 'chef Mel' but think she was just a youngster.
John Whaite occasionally pops up on This Morning, he has a very calm delivery, professional & very focused. I've made his delicious apricot & white chocolate flapjack recipe.
He's appearing again at The Cake & Bake Show London, Oct 3rd-5th Earls Court

and opens a cookery school later this year

Re: New Food Progs This Week
We certainly like Bake Off, though I understand Sky has purchased 70% of the company producing it so we may not be able to watch it next year. That would be a shame as Mel and Sue were better (and ruder) than ever and the standard just gets higher.
A piece in the Radio Times mentioned Mary and Paul are under no pressure when it comes to choosing winners and losers, “unlike some programmes” they said. Mmm.
I’ve never been fond of spin off shows (Strictly for example) but I enjoyed Extra Slice completely. Maybe that was because of even more innuendos, but I imagine because it gave us a more insight into the programme. For example, Paul Rankin didn’t poo poo the idea of marking a swiss roll before rolling but just, nicely, suggested a different approach. I’m no fan of big mouth Wallace but thought he was just about right.
Good to see Clare getting a good moment in the spotlight and, having received some really nasty comments on social media, she went up even more in my eyes as she’s posted, ‘I’d rather be fat than a keyboard warrior’. Good for her. Invite her back, say I.
As for Sweets, when she said buy your ingredient (flaked almonds) in supermarkets she went off my radar rather quickly. They run an independent sweet shop so should not be giving publicity to supermarkets. Grrrr. OH who carried on watching it, whilst playing Solitaire (or whatever) said she wasn’t impressed.

Poor woman can't win - if she'd said "buy them from a specialist retailer" there'd have been a mass switch off as there isn't one in most towns
I though they were trying very hard to make it obvious that you really could try this at home without much in the way of specialist equipment or ingredients
I fancied the gin truffles
Agree with you about Clare & extra slice
I thought both the programme & Clare hit the right tone

As a one time small town retailer all I wanted her to say was, if there's an independent shop near you, get them there or try a supermarket.
