Freezer burn on chicken.

Postby Annmarie123 » Wed May 02, 2012 12:48 pm

I just found 2chicken breasts in my freezer, they seem to have some freezer burn on them. Do I throw them out or can I cook safely with them, I was thinking of doing them in egg and breadcrumbs. Thanks.

I don't worry about freezer burn. It's only where the item has dried out, nothing more sinister. I might trim off the affected parts but tbh, if it was for me and OH... and particularly if the marks were going to be covered with breadcrumbs... I wouldn't worry at all.

Hi Annmarie123,

For me it would depend on how much freezer burn they had. If it is just a few spots then it wouldn't bother me at all, if they looked all dried out I wouldn't bother with them.

Although freezer burn is not harmfull it does affect the quality of the meat.

It's usually caused by insufficient, damaged or the wrong sort of wrapping in the freezer. This sort of thing...

I love the suggestion for getting the air out of plastic bags pre-sealing.
