Sue - It is self preservation. I drink them very quickly as they taste sooo good. 1/4 is a good ratio, but not if you are at a BBQ and its hot and summery

Not sure where you're buying your Hendricks from but it is £28 a bottle from Ocado. Similar price in other supermarkets too.

I love gin, have quite a collection now. I always pick a bottle up when we go on holiday and there is a bar in Manchester that has several hundred to try.

My favourites are currently Bathtub, Thomas Dakin Manchester gin, East London gin (can't remember which batch number I got and can't currently access the gin shelf) and Brooklyn.

Like Sue, I'm searching for a decent tonic that isn't too sweet. I keep buying fancy ones in a shop in town but no joy so far. I'm considering making my own, had a lovely home made tonic in a tiny bar in Verona.

Smitch- is that bar "Atlas" by deansgate/castlefield? Spent a nice evening there in the summer on their terrace before heading down castlefield.

Yes it is Atlas, great for gin but very poor for Beer and other spirits. My husband hates gin so we don’t go very often

Sorry, Smitch, I must have got the price wrong, although it was a special pack with a glass in it to put lemon slices etc. in.

My sister in law has a Hendricks tea set, don't think she ever uses it though!

I forgot a good gin from my last, Jensen's old Tom from Bermondsey. M&S have just started to stock it.

That's a pretty cup Renee.
And no-one would really know you were knocking it back in the middle of the afternoon!

Marks is rather good for speciality drinks, Smitch.

We had one glass of Seagram's extra dry on holiday in a gin bar.
Not particularly memorable like the Tanqueray was that was stirred with a piece of cucumber.

I think it is my understanding, that certain gins are to be served with only certain fruits.

M&S has started stocking some really good gins. They often have reductions too, which is always good. My husband is a bourbon drinker, sadly they normally only have one in stock, it is much harder to buy US whiskey in the UK.

I am not a G&T fan myself, because I don;t like tonic and can;t bear the smell of gin. However, I did see this recipe yesterday and thought of everyone here who likes this tipple.

And there's also this for all you rhubarb fans out there

Strangely enough, Whiskey Cake is quite popular in certain parts of Spain especially in Madrid.

Have never had a Gin & Tonic Cake or a Whiskey Cake ..

Interesting !!

Thank you for all your feedback .. :wino

Looks good WFF
I just had another go at Schweppes and rediscovered why I changed to Fever-Tree, both BF and I dislike saccharin and she can detect the slightest trace in anything (she really can, I've tested her), but Fever-Tree is all natural so only sugar

Stokey Sue,

I only use Fever Tree however, if a bar does not have it, I have Nordic or order a glass of wine or Cava .. However, since Fever Tree is endorsed by Ferràn Adrià, it is very popular in Cataluna ..
