Pumpkin pies
With Thanksgiving days away, and Christmas around a month away, I was thinking about pumpkin pies. A big tradition here in the states.
And there was the recipe in the Sunday times magazine (19 Nov 2017)...I thought they were all good recipes. Love sweet potatoes.
At any rate, from the times magazine
My fav is the cake bosses pumpkin pie. He was on Rachael Ray show and did it

Would not have thought about all spice and mace in a pumpkin pie but it was good. I cut back on the cloves to 1/8 tsp. Otherwise it was like eating blackjack gum (clove flavoured gun popular thru the 70's).
A pleasant surprise I would certainly do again.

Re: Pumpkin pies
Here's one I made a few years back, to see what all the fuss was about. I have to confess I didn't really enjoy it.
EDIT: Now pecan pie - that's a different kettle of fish!!!! Yum!

Re: Pumpkin pies
I've made pumpkin pie a few times, quite like it
And having tried to do it from scratch, unless you grow your own pumpkins I'm with Ina, might as well use Libby's in a can, not only easier but 100% consistent, so when you've got the set once
<Whispers> I prefer evap milk to cream, trashy but better flavour and set IMHO

To be real honest, I am not a fan nor do I like any form of pumpkin, calabaza, or yellow or orange squash family vegetables ..
However, I love Pecan Pie .. When one of my daughter in laws and 1 of my sons were in San Francisco, California, they sent my mom, my mom in law and I Ecological Bio Organic Pecans and I had made a couple of Pecan Pies ..
Simply amazing ..

I just can't get my head round pumpkin pie (even though I'll happily devour things like carrot cake). It just seems wrong somehow!

Re: Pumpkin pies
I've never had pumpkin pie, although I have made pumpkin soup once.
Whatever you all have for dinner today, Happy Thanksgiving Day

Yes, Happy Thanksgiving!
Re: Pumpkin pies
My Mum made the most wonderful pumpkin pie, Dad grew a pumpkin every year. Her pie included raisins/sultanas and spice. Never been able to recreate that childhood taste, but I suppose that’s just about the same for everything! Carnation cream of course. A household that could only afford margarine, there was nothing else.

i, too, have made a pumpkin pie - once. we didn't consider it worth the calories to make again - pumpkin chowder is another matter - really good soup.
