Gluten free scones (and vegan, if you wish)
I've been working with a local cafe - Roots Café - here in Taunton to help them produce gluten free and vegan products.
I had a two hour session last week with the owner, Sylvia, making gluten free bread rolls, vegan chocolate cake, socca and faina/farinata.
The cake went down very well, and the rolls were a great success, as was the socca.
However, my research into making gluten free, vegan scones has given patchy results, to say the least.
The bread rolls we made were made using Wessex GF bread flour which I've never tried before - so I thought I'd try this flour to make some scones.
I used this recipe from the Wicked Good Vegan site:

I added some bicarb of soda - well, it seemed logical to go with the vegan 'buttermilk'. And I used Pure vegetable fat.
And they were great! I wouldn't claim they were the equivalent of a 'normal' scone, but they were very acceptable indeed.
Even my wife said they were 'lovely'!

I'm very happy with the Wessex flour - however, I've a load of Doves flour, so I'll have a go with that next time.

Now that you've discovered that making your own bread is easier than you thought, what else is there that isn't so difficult when you actually have a go? Like making your own pasta without a machine, for instance!
