Creole soda bread - chocolate and beetroot - and vegan!

Postby Breadandwine » Wed May 02, 2012 1:15 am

I needed something to take on a walk on the Quantocks tomorrow. It was too late to make something with yeast, so I went for a soda bread.

I've been meaning to attempt to recreate this bread ever since I tasted some, with ma daughter, at the 'Taste of Christmas' show last year.

Here's my attempt:

The bread's in the oven ATM, with another 20 minutes to go.

30 minutes later (it took 50 minutes altogether) it's out. I've take a couple of pics which I'll post tomorrow.

It tastes OK - certainly looks the part - but I'll see what my mates say tomorrow.

Cheers, Paul
Now that you've discovered that making your own bread is easier than you thought, what else is there that isn't so difficult when you actually have a go? Like making your own pasta without a machine, for instance!

The bread (cake? It's hard to describe) went down very well!

The reaction from everyone who has tasted it has been very positive - and I'm enjoying it myself.

I'm very surprised it's as nice as it is without it containing any fat whatsoever!

There is now a couple of pics and a link to the original company on my blog.

If any of you are able to visit Stoke Newington market, I thoroughly recommend one of their loaves!

Cheers, Paul
