Bright blue skies and blustery here in Norfolk ... but nothing to what some have had to cope with.

There was that weird Ophelia orange sky here yesterday about 3.30pm which it said on the news was dust. I expected it would chuck it down soon but it didn't. As said, we were very lucky on the eastern side of the country and hugs to those not so lucky elsewhere.

A nice drying day today.

Have gone through my clothes and shoes today. What a task, although I did this 6 months ago.
Ruthlessly.
If it's too small but still lovely, then my petite niece can have it.

I now have about half as much as I used to have.

But I'm in trouble.
As I've taken my wedding shoes (R&Bromley) to the shoe bank. I cannot wear those heals any more. They haven't been worn for over 2 decades, so what's the problem Tony!

Been a bit busy. Host for this morning's coffee was unwell, so I stepped in. On Monday made carrot cake, hummus, cashew butter and my first ever Rice Flour Loaf – that was a really weird experience. No idea whether I got it right as coeliac friend and wheat intolerant one couldn't come either. Does Brown Rice Flour produce a white loaf? Mine did. Did a focaccia this morning and made proper coffee. Bought some cheeses, but forgot to put out the chutney.

Anyway nice time this morning.

Sunday, Devon Daughter invited us to tea (dinner, evening meal, whatever) partly so I could give grandson some thoughts on his dissertation – plus we could try road kill venison. A deer had hit a car, badly injured, Police marksman did the necessary. Local pub hung it for two weeks in chill room, one shoulder was too badly damaged to use which amount of meat too small to put on menu. Grandsons work there, so …

It was fine, though over cooked, deliberately, just to make sure. Of course, there were also, roast spuds, roast parsnips, cooked beetroot, cauliflower and brocolli bake plus class gravy. And a giant apple crumble. Didn't need breakfast the following day!

Glad I amused you, when I can, I'll play a bit more catching up.

Helps to have tuscan sausages, but otherwise you can add fennel seeds.

Morning.

Grey & damp in Northam but not cold. The wind on Tuesday was quite hairy with very strong gusts, thankfully due to the configuration of the courtyard garden the leaves place themselves in neat piles in corners.

Gill, I've only worn my wedding shoes once (19 years next Tuesday) and they are carefully wrapped in tissue, I can't bear to part with them. Bought in that shoe shop in Lichfield Terrace in Richmond. When then younger step son to be (age 13 & a rugby hulk) heard I was off to buy wedding shoes he said, "Why do you need new shoes, you've got plenty?". Bless him he produced the sixpence to put in them.

Just taken some venison & laver sausages with onion mix out of the freezer plus some braised red cabbage, jacket will be included. All the veg is grown by our wonderful gardener Dave and so very good.

Duh ... just realised yesterday I made the rough puff pastry and prepped the filling for a steak and kidney pie today ... it'll have to be lasagne tomorrow ... it'll be perfect for when we get back from the ballet

You sound just like me, Suffs!

When my man friend comes to stay, we enjoy good quality chipolata sausages, with creamy mash, Bramley apple chunks, sautéed in butter and grilled tomatoes. I put a sprinkle of demerara in with the apples. It's a nice combination of flavours.

Gill, we're seeing Rambert Dance doing Ghost Dancers http://www.rambert.org.uk/performances/ghost-dances/

I've always wanted to see this ... we both love contemporary dance, but also an art school friend was a refugee from Pinochet's horrors and her father was imprisoned, tortured and killed by his henchmen. This will be a very moving evening.

Good morning all

Last night was wonderful ... Ghost Dances was the third of three pieces and received a stupendous standing ovation ... an absolutely beautiful piece.

The other two pieces (The Days Run Away Like Wild Horses and Symbiosis) were also superb pieces of choreography and dancing.

Now I shall finish my breakfast of a huge Concorde pear from our espalier in the garden and do something about the laundry .....
