Re: Spam spam spam......wonderful spam
Hi Renée
The stuff has been around for donkeys years. I had relatives who lived thru WW2 and after and tell stories about spam. Anymore it was a love hate thing.

Thanks Mark! I enjoyed looking through the website and noticed a Roast Turkey Spam! I don't think that we have that one over here.
Marmite over here is also a love/hate thing! It's nice on toast.
Where about are you in the US?

Made me giggle too, Mark! Yes, you can have quite a hilarious time with translations!! Spam is so versatile! Is there anything that you can't do with it?!!
I don't envy you all the heat, but you get very cold winters too. I've only been to Toronto and Ottawa on the east side to stay with relatives, but it was in the summer.

Re: Spam spam spam......wonderful spam
Oops....forgot something.....I did google for some. I did a net search and 2 or 3 places that will translate web pages. But like any language there are idiosyncrasies that make translation programmes cringe.
Most had spam a couple had spum.....and for quanities, how many grams do you find in "proper amount". For someone on the outside looking in, these are not delia Smith recipes.
To me in this case, the translation sites need "everyday" (or whatever the term is) Japanese
What do you guys think??? Other than someone who really knows the language, what is a good way to translate??
Thank you

Re: Spam spam spam......wonderful spam
If I find something via a Google search, I usually click on the Google translate page which is usually enough to get the gist of it, then Google specific words separately if obviously nonsensical but important. Or copy/paste if symbols and "translate Japanese" in this case, then see what comes up.
Thus I found that "my" Spam table link was made for the day of the Doll's Festival, so rice with blue onion, and Spam on top, and that the white slice is "hanpen": The hanpen ( a cake of ground fish combined with starch and steamed ).
I guess don't knock that Spam combo until you've tried it eh?

Spam is on offer at Morrison's £1.13
This is what our own sunflower has to say about Spam in Chinese food, and of course she writes in English!

What a very attractive website Sunflower has now!
My friend Monica, who lives in Malaysia recommended XO sauce.
If Spam is good enough for Sunflower it's definitely good enough for me and I'll try some of her recipes.
