Re: Vegetarian question
Sue I've had tempeh in Indonesia but only ever as tempeh keyring, as you've posted, plain in Parang restaurants or fried along which rice in nasi goreng.
I've never seen it to buy here but will look again when I'm at the Chinese Supermarket.

Re: Vegetarian question
Now you are making me feel a)jealous and b) hungry.
But I'll add my version of nasi goreng to the list of possible veggie dishes

They normally have it in the freezer section of my local Chinese supermarket and it is pretty cheap. Shame I'm not keen on it- I want to like it so maybe I'll persevere.

Re: Vegetarian question
I'll definitely check the freezers more closely then, it's a huge place, Seewoo in Glasgow.
Can I also say, Tempeh Kerring of course, NOT keyring, and Padang restaurants. Thank you auto correct.
Padang restaurants are great, they have a whole display of dishes and you can just have a bit of this and that and only pay for what you eat.

How about a duxelle mixture for the Scotch eggs Joan? Or are mushrooms a no-no for your son, DiL and GCs? I've done that a couple of times before and it's lovely. I think I got the idea from a cookery programme of some kind, it was either Celeb Masterchef or Mary Berry.
Or maybe a stuffing mix that you'd normally have with a roast chicken or turkey? Or something along the lines of falafel?

Re: Vegetarian question
In one experiment I used a Glamorgan sausage type wrapping which actually worked very well but i fancied trying the haggis version.
Re: Vegetarian question
Hi
I have used a stiff lentil mix to wrap eggs in. You can make the mix as spicy. If you are interested I will try to find the recipe.

Re: Vegetarian question
It's a shame she doesn't eat fish.
As I tried a beautifully elegant fish version, served with a light curried sauce.
The curried sauce I use in m'coronation chicken ever since.

Maybe she'd like a bit of wafer thin ham?
Sorry, couldn't resist that quote from the Royle family that somehow it wasn't meat if it was wafer thin; 'twas funny because at the time people did think like that.

Re: Vegetarian question
I hd to explain to a city yuppy about twenty years ago that vegetarians do not eat chicken
She assured me that several if her colleagues were vegetarian and did eat chicken
I pointed out that those were not in fact vegetarians but liars.
She was not impressed, or convinced

Re: Vegetarian question
Strange thing this ham business, Jeral.
I'd think of anything that a vegetarian could remotely eat - it would absolutely not be ham.
To me, ham is particularly meaty.
Sue
I think I went to wedding with one of those liars.
Pre-ordered a vegetarian sit down meal ....... with a lot of fuss.
But when she saw other lovely meaty foods coming out, she acquired one of the lamb plates from the waitress.
And tucked in.
No integrity.
