Re: Electric Steamer, George Foreman & Microwave
Actually one year my friend and I did! We picked kilos of balckberries on a wallk ate some and turned the rest into jelly with the addition of crab apples we picked at the same time. We turned a chair upside down on the table and tied a linen teatowel (mine) onto the legs to make a jelly bag. We begged empty jam jars from other holidayers and the owner. Never has jelly tasted so good that winter back in Newcastle.

Make good use of your wok, WFF - cooks things quicker!
We got ourselves a George Foreman Grill ages ago, but to be honest, I don`t like it very much. Doesn`t produce enough heat for my liking. It`s now stuck under the bed at the flat in Margarita.
The steamer`s good for rice, and rice is perfectly OK reheated in the microwave. Also useful for heating water, making soups, etc.
Of course, you could bung a few bricks together and construct a makeshift BBQ - that`d help out , I suppose.

Cheers for the hints and tips, everybody. Much appreciated!
I found something wonderful on Friday. A frozen batch of stewed beef and ale, so I made a steamed beef and ale pudding! I havent made suet pastry since I was a kid with my Mom, and it was delicious.

Sounds delicious WWF but I'm afraid it wouldn't do here at the moment. It was 40.5C here yesterday.
Being a northener I am partial to a suet pudding or dumplings. I have made individual leek puddings to go with beef in Brwn Ale for French friends and they loved it
I also love suet crust on top of a rabbit pie - with black pudding, mushrooms and bacon. OOOOh I am almost wishing for autumn.

Cheers Joan/Renee. The Pudding was delicious, as soon as you can, make yourself one.
Lat night I made steamed Plaice fillets over lemon slices, with a leek, pea and samphire risotto. Which I made on my friends electric hob.

Lovely! I love plaice and it's delicate flavour, but I haven't had that for a while. Of course, Bury Market is still within easy reach for you.

Renee - No it actually closer now, but I do not have the tram so visits have to be without sloping off for a sly pint or 2
Gill/Joan - Thanks, very much. You are right, if I couldn't wash OR eat nice food I might jump off my scaffolding
