Are You a Green Goddess Salad Dressing Fan?

Postby Alexandria » Sun Oct 01, 2017 6:33 pm

Sunday 1st October ..

In 1948, a culinary artist had created a salad dressing which he named after a play, The Green Goddess, which opened in 1923 ..

Have you ever made Green Goddess Salad dressing ? If so, how do you prepare your´s ? Note, to appreciate this salad dressing, one must be a fan of anchovies .. Suggestion, use only 1 or 2 small filets if you are not a big fan .. :wino :wino

Here is the récipe for the classic:

1 clove garlic minced
1 / 3 cup mayonnaise of choice or home made
1 tblsp. Worcestershire
2 tsps. minced snippets of fresh chive herb
1 tblsp White wine or Sherry vinegar
1 minced tablsp of fresh Italian parsley
6 anchovy filets packed in Extra virgin olive oil
Cracked pepper and salt to taste
A Head of Romaine (or lettuces that you prefer) .. I use Rocket & Raddicchio with a a few Romaine leaves ..

Simple:

In a food processor or with a stand up mixer, combine all the ingredients to form a velvety salad dressing ..

Drizzle on salad with a large pipette or large soup spoon ..

Enjoy !

Hi Alexandria,

I have friends in the Netherlands and Germany who make Green Goddess dressing. I love anchovies, so your recipe is a reminder to make it! I don't think that Colin would appreciate it, so will make it after he returns home, along with your other recipes which have stirred me on to be more adventurous! I get into a rut.

Would sherry vinegar be preferable to white vinegar?

Thank you!

@ Renée,

I use Sherry Vinegar ..

Sounds like you shall have a lovely time with my recipes !

Sorry to hear Colin does not care for anchovies !

If you enjoy anchovies, I am sure you would like "Pasta Puttanesca" ( I do mine with linguini or Tagliatelli ) ..

Thank you once again and have a lovely evening .. :wave

I am not a fan of heavy mayo based dressings on salad leaves, so probably wouldn't make this but I did see a variant (Nigella?) that used blitzed avocado in place of all or part of the mayo which sounded interesting, though I'd probably use that as a dip with crudites

Alexandria,

Pasta Puttanesca is one of my favourites, which I haven't made for a while. I love the intense flavours.

Thank you for the reminder!

Stokey Sue,

I bought two bags of frozen avocado halves from the supermarket and am looking for ways to use them. I have already used them in smoothies.

Alexandria! I enjoyed making the Green Goddess Salad Dressing today and drizzled it over a chicken salad.

I find it quite addictive! I also used it with crudités for lunch.

Thanks to both of you, Alexandria and Gill! I used plain white plates and dishes for a long time, but spotted the above dish in Sainsbury's. Sadly, they don't have that design now.

Sue I use avo as a fat substitute in dressings quite a lot. It is lovely :thumbsup

There is a Jewish recipe which uses mainly avocado as the base for a salad dressing. haven't used it for years but I must go and look it out.

Joan - My Jewish friends who moved to Oz last year are visiting next year and will be putting on a Kosher night when they do visit so that recipe would be ace if you can put your hand to it :)

My favourite dressing with avo is a ranch dressing I do with wings/ribs.

- Ripe Avo
- Sour Cream
- Cayenne
- Worcestershire
- Chives
- Parsley
- Lemon Juice
- S&P

Foodie, I'm all over it so to speak.
The only thing I don't have is soured cream. Nor avocado.

It will be the next dressing I make.

My sort of favourite is caesar salad dressing, using parmesan and anchovy.

Zing!

By heavy I meant thick, I don't like thick dressings on leaves, just the lightest possible film of something, I'm sure the flavour is great, but the texture doesn't appeal

I would use it as a dip happily
