Hi Gill,

Long time no chat!

On trips to Turkey we found that yoghourt was a regular accompaniment to most meals and I have got into the habit of adding it to many things. Chilli flakes and other condiments also were always available. This was in a home cooked situation, albeit by a chef, so I imagine reasonably authentic.

Spinach, lardon, spring onion, mushroom pasta was eaten here last night with chilli flakes and yoghourt. Yum.

Hi Luca!
I really enjoyed the yogurt in Turkey and must start using it in other ways as well as my breakfast smoothie. Thank you for the link. The Broad Beans with Yoghurt and Smoky Chilli Butter sounds really delicious. I do have some smoky chillies which I haven't started using yet.

Luca, your picture looks lovely, must try it. To me it looks like a 'chilli and black mustard seed tarka in hot, clarified butter', though that is not how the recipe says it. I have some beans in the freezer, will give it a try soon.

And thank you, Luca. Yes it is a long time since we've had a good blather.
What a beautiful recipe.

And thank you Mamta and Mark.

I got my act together yesterday and made Sakkarin's linked and recommended achari chicken, the vegetable dish. I used cauliflower.
A couple of comments, I used the marinade as a dry-ish sauce on the chicken.
And I wasn't sure what the mango mint was - so made it with yoghurt, mint, fresh mango and lemon.
I ground the whole spices too, didn't bother to dry fry them though.

The house still smells authentic. What a lovely meal. Thank you so much.

Ta! I'm going to have a look at the book now.

Clive, the achari was aromatic, and quite frankly different to the usual saucy spicy Indian dishes. I'm still not sure if it was supposed to be dry or not.
I have everything in the cupboards - the advantage of having very good Indian and Asian (and Polish) stores over the road.
You know it's going to be delicious, when it smells appealingly before you even begin to cook.

Spicy heat levels perfect (we are vindaloo or even hotter people). Leave out the powdered chilli if you like it less so, but I'd keep in the fresh chilli.
I pureed mine rather than chopped.

This is how the meal looked before the cooking. Just as good really.

The word Achar or Aachar simply means pickle. Achari means anything cooked in the style of a pickle, using some of the pickling spices. It is usually hot and spicy, just like a pickle.
You can cook many vegetables in pi kle style too.

Glad you liked the Achari, Gill. Yes, it's supposed to be dryish, as it's a tikka style dish. Personally I reduce the amount of yoghurt she suggests. Also the whole spices are part of the "picklishness" of it, and makes it look more attractive too, with lots of interesting bitey bits.

I use the mix for chicken pieces too, made some Sunday, yum...

yes I saw you'd mention to reduce the yoghurt amount.
I was happy with it, Sakkers. I'm a very big plain yoghurt fan, eat it every day over my dry oats or granola.

I only had black mustard seed in, but do like yellow.
I'll be sure to get the yellow for next time, see if it's different.

A definite keeper.
