What is Your Gastronomic Dream Trip ?

Postby Alexandria » Wed Mar 14, 2018 3:26 pm

:thumbsup :thumbsup

Our passion is travelling and since we are in the travel business we both travel quite often together and individually, though my trips are quite a bit longer and my husband´s are strictly business ..

Our gastronomic dream trip, I would have to say is to return to Japan ..

In Europe, to the places we have not been, in Spain, Italy, The Aegean Islands of Greece and southern France ..

In 2019, my husband and I are travelling to Capetown, South Africa, and via dear friends from Verona, Italy, who relocated to Capetown many years ago, we are going to do a Safari in Zimbabwe, with an Italian and English Author, Conservationist, Photographer, and official Tourism Specialist & Guide, African Path Safaris, Zimbabwe .. We have doing an enormous amount of research via our 2 Italian friends, and shall be going to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe and on "the big cat route" .. In Capetown, Route 62, and Coast with Unparalled South Africa Tours, founded by our dear friend and author.

Have a lovely day .. :wave

There's some good food in South Africa (and some terrible)

I enjoyed Cape Town and the wine country and the cape itself. Best food was actually in Durban for me
Try some Cape Malay food and some Karoo lamb as well as local game. And fish

I think the cuisine I'd like to try is Iranian, but I don't really want to go there at present!

And also SE Asa

Stokey Sue, :wave :wave

Yes, South African reds from Stellenbosch, are quite amazing ..

Definitely, shall write down your recommendations.

Our Italian friends are quite versed in upscale Capetown and vicinity local cuisine, and of course, due to the long coastline, surely there are some very good fish restaurants ..

Of course, Hararare, Zimbabwe, shall be the meeting point for our Safari, which shall be quite amazing, however, we do not consider this a Gastro Eno dream however, African Path Safaris has been in operation for 21 years and the Founder is northern Italian, so I am sure he has some profound insight as to where to dine ..

Thanks for all your feedback ..

Have a lovely evening .. :thumbsup :thumbsup

I think mine would have to be India - with Argentinian and Chilean wines, single malt Scotch and Spanish seafood.

Karakoolaide,

That is quite a high order !

Spanish Shellfish and Seafood in India, well perhaps in a Michelin starred venue in Mumbai ..

However, a bit doubtful as it is highly consumed here so, export is very limited .. Perhaps, from Portugal as they have strong ties to Goa approx. 2 to 3 hours south of Mumbai ..

Interesting, India gastronomically certainly .. I am a big fan of Shellfish Tandoori ..

:thumbsup

Have fun and a lovely day !

The best of our local tapas restaurants is called escosesa

They specialise in cooking the best Scottish seafood and meats in a Catalan / Spanish style

https://escocesa.co.uk

Don't remember eating shellfish in India (Kerala) though plenty of fish, which is odd as chemmen Allepey (a prawn curry) is a famous local dish

The giant river prawns in Burma were amazing though, they cost nearly £40 per kg here, but were available in truck stops for $2 a plate there

Stokey Sue,

Edimburgh, has an amazing Tapas Bar owned by a Spaniard, with the letter " J " .. Cannot remember if he is Javier or José as it was quite some time since we travelled over to Edimburgh

Thank you for feedback ..

Yep, Japan is my number one for food. We've been three times in 2012, 2013 and 2016 and hope to go for a long trip in 2019. Our last trip was already 4 weeks but we felt like we wanted to be there so much longer!

Had a fabulous street-food oriented trip to Thailand this January, I'd like to go to other countries in the region, particularly Vietnam.

Kavey, :thumbsup :thumbsup

Yes, we loved Japan too ..

We are planning our 2nd trip for 2020 ..

Thailand was quite fascinating too and we particularly loved Phuket Island ..

Of course, Bangkok, has quite a varied range of gastro delights from "street food" to Three Michelin in Five Star Hotels and everything else in between ..

Have a great weekend & Thank you for all your feedback .. :thumbsup :thumbsup
