Thanks for the link Mark. There was some nice food there. I keep meaning to make Sauerkraut, but haven't got around to it yet. I have the large jar ready!
Re: Eurovision party food, Aussie style
I still don't understand the Aussie link with EUROvision song contest!!
And why we have a singer competing is beyond me!!
I always thought the Eurovision was a bit of a joke, but then SBS started broadcasting it here (years ago, I expect!) and they seem to take it quite seriously!!

May not be unrelated to the fact that for many years Sydney has had the biggest and best Gay Pride marches Rainbow? Considered very much a popoulist example of High Camp in many circles
Interestingly, the guy who runs the big commercial Eurovision parties says that 15 years ago it was all about the camp, but now it has swing back to being more about good songs, well presented, and preferably with some inkling of national identity. He thinks this is positive and being actually more interesting rejuvenates it. I think he is spot on, I remember 15 years ago it was a procession of East European divas in leotard based costumes belting away in a disco fever setting. It looked like the swimsuit parade of Miss Universe, camped up to the max. They were so much like that, we referred to the entries as Miss Ukraine, Miss Poland etc in this house
Going back to the food, I'd quite like to see Adam Liaw's show but I looked at the Cataplana recipe and was not convinced by 1 tsp paprika in a dish for 20? Looking forward to going to Portugal later this year and eating Clams in Cataplana

The gay connection was brought to my attention a few years ago. I was once running my moth trap at a friend's place in Norfolk and a few people were coming round to see it. A gay couple cancelled at the last minute because it had just dawned on them that it was Eurovision night.

Personally, I think the Eurovision Song Contest should be nuked.
As a trained musician, it goes against all my principles

Gives hundreds of professional musicians paid work in tough climate

It's fun meeting up online with friends from another board and sharing the evening. We get hilarious comments from some of them!

If I were to watch a feed, it won't be the one from the BBC..IMHO, Graham Norton is horrible. He seems to suffer from diahrea of the mouth and constipation of the soul.
He just doesn't know when to shut the hell up. If I were to watch it, I would watch the feed thru the Eurovision web site
Thank you for the rant

I hadn't thought about that, Sue, although I did think Eurovision was very Camp!
The Sydney Gay & Lesbian (and all the others) Mardi Gras is huge these days and we sometimes watch it on the ABC - looks like great fun and lots of groups join in like the Police, Paramedics and others.

I didn't know you were a musician, Clive (why would I).
What's your instrument?
Didn't like a single song last evening, I even turned the volume now on our soundbar.
And I agree with you on the commentator, Mark. He's Terry Bell.
We just had prawn pasta for our party = a normal night in for us.
I do like Australia as a guest entry wild card tho.

I wasn't keen on most of the entries but did like the Danish one. I thought the subject of the song was good too - it was inspired by the patron saint of Orkney - St. Magnus - a pacifist Viking who was martyred by his cousin - full story here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-n ... d-43997428 .

I´ve got a degree in music; instead of a thesis, I sang an hour´s concert. Baritone.
These days the only thing I play is the fool
Don´t sing anymore - I think it was family pressure to study music. Still, I appreciate music very much so long as it´s not 20th Century
