Lily Bollinger on Champagne

Postby Joanbunting » Wed Aug 08, 2012 2:00 pm

I'm afraid my friends and family know me too well.

This morning I had an apron from a very old friend inscribed thus:

"I drink champagne when I am happy and when I'm sad. Sometimes I drink it when I'm alone. When I have company I consider it oligatory. I trifle with it if i am not hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise I never touch it - unless I'm thirsty"

Sums it up I think :D :D

Sue,

Thank you. Of course I will :D

It is strange though isn't it that quite a lot of people I know dislike champagne and other sparkling drinks? Not too many of them French though.

Hi Joan,

I've always liked that quote, I have it on a t shirt which I wear to bed!

I also like these two...

"Always keep a bottle of champagne in the fridge for special occasions. Sometimes the special occasion is that you've got a bottle of champagne in the fridge" Hestor Browne

"Remeber gentlemen, it is not just France we are fighting for, it is champagne!" Winston Churchill

Not about champagne but I love this one too..

"I like to drink martinis. One or two at most. Three I'm under the table, four I'm under the host" Dorothy Parker

I have always appreciated Joseph Dargent (in the NY Times)

"No governmentcould survive without champagne. Champagne in the throat of our diplomatic people is like oil in the wheels of an engine"

Our wine writer friend who also lectures on tasting often opens with "A good general rule is to state that the bouquet is btter than the taste, and vice versa" came, she tells me from Stephen Potter.
