Re: What's everyone eating this week?
Renée,
Scorpio fish though it has a horrid reputation for destroying the coral reefs, it is an amazingly exquisite delicacy ..
I am preparing the fish with fennel and fronds, spearmint fresh herb, Evoo, fresh tomato and white wine .. With the other Scorpio fish I will make a coarse mousse called Pastel de Cabracho, which is a thick mousse that slices with the Scorpio fish and brandy, home made mayo and some other secrets. It is very common during the Xmas holidays ..
I shall post the recipe !
Have a lovely weekend ..
Got to go to the shops and market now ..

I said that because you said you'd "lash out" at them! Did you mean splash?
Re: What's everyone eating this week?
No, I meant lashing out moneywise, Pampy, because of the price compared to sprouts! Hmmm ... I suppose I could have said splashing out, come to think of it!
Alexandria, what a truly delicious meal that is going to be. I envy you your cooking skills!
I look forward to the recipe, however and do like a challenge occasionally!

Haddock for us two, about 500g. Topping white bread crumbs mixed with half a small tin of tomatoes.
Ping! Service!
OH was very happy, but the topping didn't crisp up as much as I'd have liked.

Re: What's everyone eating this week?
What a lovely meal and good enough to eat! I would think that the topping didn't crisp up because of the wetness of the tomatoes. I used to make baked tomatoes with a mixture of crumbs and parmesan on top and that was crispy.
I enjoyed a bowlful of Alexandria's Minnestrone with Fennel. I grated some parmesan and stirred it in. I warmed a slice of the focaccia and broke it up, adding it to the soup. It was good!

I've moved all the recent posts to "Room 101", as they were getting personal.
If you want to continue that discussion, please do so there, not on this thread. Sorry if foodie info has been moved too, but I thought it better just to move all the posts.
Here's what I had yesterday, a rerun of Sunflower's dried rice cakes recipe. This time I only soaked them for 8 hours, which seems to be the optimum. They had a bit of the "chewing-gumminess " that the fresh Korean rice cakes have.

Re: What's everyone eating this week?
Today I walked 12.7 kms, according to Google Maps
I left the flat at about 10.30, walked a km or two, then realised I hadn't eaten anything, so stopped in a little cafe next to Parque Mexico. A double Expresso, a glass of freshly pressed orange juice and something called "Enfrijolada de Huevos con Aguacate". Two soft corn tacos, filled with scrambled eggs, covered with a puree of refried beans and topped with avocado.
Makes a change from cornflakes!!

Thank goodness for that café, KK and I'll bet that it really hit the spot!
I made a simple pork casserole, lightly browning onions, celery and the pork, then cooking slowly with the addition of potatoes and swede chunks.

What a fab brekkie!
I was thinking earlier about all te stupid products over here that pretend to be "Breakfast" replacements, and was contemplating the ultimate version, "Breakfast Ice Cream".
Milk and eggs: that's very breakfasty; some fruit for the "5 a day", and maybe a cereal coating of some sort (rice krispies?), finished off with a layer of chocolate, which has no real place at breakfast, but many breakfast products include it.

Clive and Alexandria. Enjoy your meals out. You are making me drool.
Sakkarin, I know what you mean about chocolate at breakfast.
And some things look like raisins, but are blobs of chocolate.
Eggs.
That's what you want. Eggs is a breakfast! Yoghurt too. That's a breakfast.
Tonight is fishfingers in the Painter house. Yes, Tony did the shopping.
Now, did someone mention my favourite meat ............... PORK! Nice one, our Renee.

Re: What's everyone eating this week?
those plates look absolutely fantastic, Sakkarin.
Re: What's everyone eating this week?
KK - that breakfast has got me salivating! Coffee, juice and eggs - what could be better?
Sakkarin - agree about the non breakfast things that we are encouraged to eat. Who on earth wants to eat something as sweet as chocolate for breakfast and just the thought of the breakfast-replacement drinks make me want to

Re: What's everyone eating this week?
Spicy chicken pittas last evening.
Tony really likes his pitta toasted, I like mine soft with a little colour. Plus chopped salad for stuffing.
Easy cooking when I don't fancy anything too challenging.
I serve them on my twin Jackie's chunky chopping board, made for her by a good friend. It's the only thing I took of hers.
Nearly 2 years on, I can pick it up without the heartache.
