Re: ryvita ideas
I can't cope with mashed sardines. They have to be very good whole ones in olive oil on rye or linseed toast with red onion rings and lots of flat leaf parsely, a dash of Tabasco and wedge of lime.
You can get something called millesime sardines which are considerably more expensive but are rather good.
If you can read French heres a limk:

Re: ryvita ideas
The sardine roll certainly needed a bit of a lift - even as I was eating it I was tempted to squeeze some lemon juice on it to cheer it up.
Re: ryvita ideas
I like these sardines from Waitrose. I don't call in there very often, but buy a few of them when I do.

Re: ryvita ideas
The Lushly brings back mammoth amounts of canned sild from Norway - they are smaller & more ' refined' than sardines, you can buy them canned in Olive oil/lemon/capres as well plain o/oil or tomato sauce - it's so funny at Crimbo when one of his customer's always sends him a large boxful of them - the custom charges far outway anything he paid for them!
Re: ryvita ideas
Aren't you lucky! I've been buying brisling occasionally which are perhaps similar to sild and had them on toast for lunch. They are a very cheap and healthy meal.
Re: ryvita ideas
As someone who thinks crispbreads are disproportionately costly, plus some are super dry and tasteless cardboard IMO, why not make and store dried-out toast points from wholemeal or seedy bread instead? Or white bread and rolling-pin herbs or nigella or sesame seeds into it?
(Use the cut-off crust blitzed into breadcrumbs for coating or soup thickener.)

I just remembered I sometimes just spread miso on too
I see we've got another mashed sardine girl here too - Hiya Luca nice to see you!!
Hiya Lush, good to see you too! I'm hoping to be more present in future but life, like it does, took some funny and some not so funny, turns which has restricted my free time somewhat!
I was recently advised to up my food intake, and especially fish which I tend to cook only if friends coming over. Good quality sardines are delicious I find and so easy to have as a standby.
Smooth side for me if butter or Primula/soft cheese but dimples for the sardines as I find it has extra grip and less chance of spillage onto the computer at lunch!

It just so happens I had whipped feta on my ryvita this morning & thought of you all!
I so know what you mean Luca - some days you're the bug, some days you're the windscreen!

Tasty.
Who knew ryvita could be so good.
Luca, keep up the good work with your fishy intake. Prawns, smoked salmon, more prawns. Will do you the world of good.
I do particularly like sobrasada, Lush. I haven't seen it anywhere for yonks - where'd you get yours?

I love it too Grillers, here you go...............
http://www.delicioso.co.uk/
Not cheap - but cheaper than lots of places - I do a little stock up from these people every couple of months, it pays for the postage if you see what I mean - their judions in particular are good quality & their service is excellent.

Re: ryvita ideas
Well well - you just made me nip over & take a look at their site & they appear to have stopped stocking quite a few regular things since I last did a shop - in particular the dried judions!! Bad news!

Re: ryvita ideas
Sorry guys - didn't think to explain, & especially so as we're subjected to unnecessary education lessons from a certain quarter on a daily basis here these days.................!
But Sobrasada is extremely tasty - one could say extraordinarily sublime even ( ) !
It's basically a spreadable chorizo sausage but not as strong - a speciality of Mallorca & made from their black piggies - difficult to get over here - it makes a lovely sauce for spaghetti & casseroles too.

Re: ryvita ideas
I can get it from a spanish deli when I visit my chum in Bristol, Lush. They have excellent food related shops there that aren't overpriced, but I've not been for months. I must give her a call when I can drive again (I've had a trapped nerve in my neck for 2 months).
I had guacamole on 5 x ryvitas last evening. Piggy piggy.
It was a pleasant surprise to open the avocado that had been already-ripened when I got it 4 days ago, to find it was perfect inside, not a hint of tarnish.
Ditto the little tomatoes that were only just holding it together.
