Carta da Musica!

Postby hungryhousewife » Fri Jul 06, 2012 4:23 pm

I've been having great fun, trying to ignore the incessant rain, as I prepare for this sodden (!!) picnic!!
As well as the chile, I've been fiddling with some funky bread - I found a recipe for Carta da Musica - a crispy, yeasted flat bread - apparently eaten with drinks as a nibble before supper! AND I've managed to get the photo on!! Yay!!

It tastes very good - I sprinkled on some salt and some crushed garlic, before putting in the oven, and should have put a little rosemary on too, but had to rush out.

Oh they look wonderful HH! & well done loading your photo :clap

I remember seeing someone on a blog make them & they brushed them with olive oil & sprinkled with parmesan before baking, the rosemary would be good too!

I love Carta da Musica but I've never thought of making it myself; I can buy from local bakery and had in Sardinia - I think the stuff made by our local New Zealander is better!

Dif you split the brads (liek melba toast)?

Those do look good and congratulations on getting photos on here, too! It's a wonderful feeling when you can do this - a bit like the feeling that you get when you pass your driving licence!! :D

Thank you all for you enthusiasm! They were really simple to make, and extremely satisfying and made a nice change to normal garlic bread!

Funnily enough, although I got the recipe from a book by Katie Caldesi, I found the exact same recipe - word for word - on line

http://www.easyitalian-recipes.com/reci ... bread.html

They went really well with the chillie and rice - which kept beautifully warm in my large cold bag until needed for the picnic. We were blessed with a lovely 3 1/2 hour break in the weather between 7 and 10.30 - all donned our gumboots etc over our smart drinks party cloths, and had a jolly time! The Meringues in the picture were for pud with a bowl of berries.

The fireworks were spectacular, but sadly my camera battery had gone!

I thought that the meringues looked absolute perfection, HH. I love them with ice cream, strawberries and cream!

Thank goodness for the break in the weather!

Thanks Renee! It's amazing what the power of thought/prayer can do!!
We were so lucky, as it poured with rain all the way home!
