Re: What's everyone eating this week?
I love Lemon Drizzle Cake, Gill. It's my joint favourite with Coffee and Walnut.
I had Maccy D's for breakfast and a serrano and chorizo wholemeal flat bread for lunch. For tea I am making Rib-eye steak with a warm tomato salad!

I've had Ryvita with cottage cheese when I've been desperate to lose a few pounds, but a dollop of chilli jam always livens it up.
I had a cheese toastie with ham this afternoon, because I was watching television and the ham needed using up. I might have some muhummara later with flatbread.

Re: What's everyone eating this week?
I've tried all the ryvitas. And like them all Renee.
But just go back to dark rye. Can't beat it.
With marmite and cottage cheese, darling!
Man or a mouse? ..... get that 5th blade out ........
Tony will absolutely go spare if I get a mandoline. I am not allowed - very wise he is too.
Foodie.
Same here. Coffee and walnut is my choice of cake when I'm out with the girls.
Husband came back with granuuuuurla from Asda for me.
I don't particularly like it, but added to plain yoghurt it's not so bad.
Who on earth eats granola with chewy pretend fruit in it?

I'll confirm that dark rye ryvita is pretty good, although for me it is just an excuse to put even more butter on them than I would a slice of toast
If you have the same attachments as in the photo Renee, it looks like slicer, crinkler and three different sized juliennes.

Re: What's everyone eating this week?
Thanks Sakkarin! That explains the mystery.
I like the dark Ryvita too and also Marmite, Gill! I'll try that when I get some cottage cheese.
Which cottage cheese is the best? I always bought the large tub from Waitrose, but now Asda has brought a large-sized cottage cheese and that's nice. There was a really good one, which was much higher in fat and maybe by Loseleys, but I haven't seen it recently.

Re: What's everyone eating this week?
It is Loseley Farm cottage cheese in a tall white tub. I have bought it in Sainsburys and Morrisons. So much nicer than the other brands.
Re: What's everyone eating this week?
I've tried Sainsbury's and Morrisons and they only stock Longley Farm and their own cottage cheese. I live in Chorley.
Re: What's everyone eating this week?
Puss!!! The strawberry added to the sweet potato worked really well! I only made a small amount, so just added one. I cooked chicken thighs, dusted with kip kruiden (Dutch chicken spices), in the Halogen and steamed courgette and green beans. It was a lovely meal.

Sorry I've just realised it is Langley Farm not Losely Farm that is the nice one. The fat content is higher than the other brands and it is much thicker and less watery.

Re: What's everyone eating this week?
I'm sure Losely does a cottage cheese, Smitch. You are right too.
The only one I don't like is Tesco.
Overly big bits, with a sour liquid.
Otherwise, all the supermarkets do a decent one, if cottage cheese is your thing. Not everyone loves it of course.
Definitely steak tonight.
And a pasta tomorrow. I'll make the amatriciana sauce.

Probably me Gill.
I make my own muesli with chopped up apricots, dates, sultanas etc., which I chew. Every so often I grab a bag of granola to add, partly because age brings laziness and partly 'cos it makes a change. Used to make my own granola, but ...

Mrs B takes the same view with me. I'm bad enough with the microplane; goodness knows what I'd cut off with a mandoline...
Referring to the original topic, we're going to a barbie tonight. A BYO one so taking some bits from the butcher. Haven't got my act together, I usually do tandoori rabbit.
On Sunday there's a houseful and it will be drinks and nibbles; Iberico ham, olives, home made veg sushi and tomato filo tarts, then the Tessa Kiros lamb & orzo dish with seasonal veg & salad followed by summer pud and a goosegog tart.

Re: What's everyone eating this week?
change of plan again
husband wanted pasta.
So I made amatriciana.
Looks like a lot of sauce, but the pasta was still hard when it went in, and soaked it up. Plus parmesan on top to melt in.
Denis.
Badger!
What a delightful set of plates you are making on Sunday. Enjoy all the weekend offerings.
You must make quite an entrance bringing rabbit tandoori - I know I've never eaten it.

The pasta sauce is such a gorgeous colour, Gill!
I was going to cook a boneless pork shoulder yesterday, but left it a bit late for long slow cooking and I couldn't decide on a recipe.

Excellent timing for putting your oven on for 3hrs Renee
Hottest day of summer so far.
We are going out tonight. Whooopeee-dooo!
I'd better phone round a couple of restos. see if they have a table available. Bit late in the day ......

Re: What's everyone eating this week?
I hope that you manage to book a table, Gill, but it is Saturday night.
I put the pork shoulder in the oven at 2:30, after marinating the lean sides, according to St. James, so we'll see.

Lunch, Farmers' Market Homity Pie with salad including remains of coleslaw made in the week. Dressing homemade. Red stuff on top of the pie is some sloe jelly made in 2011 and just trying to use up. Often use a spoonful in gravy for lamb.
Satsuma for afters, plus Lemon and Ginger tea.
Simple.

What a fabulous meal! How do you make your dressing for the coleslaw and how long does it keep for?
James Martin's Slow Cooked Pork Shoulder was fabulous and the best recipe that I've ever used for that cut of meat. I didn't have black treacle, so used muscovado sugar which worked really well. I did a much shorter marinade time and cooking time. I will definitely make it again.

These days I cheat - Helman's. Coleslaw is made once/twice a week, so difficult to say how long. Helman's and coleslaw kept in fridge.
Salad dressing is 120g oil, 60g white wine vinegar, tsp of Dijon plus salt and pepper. Tsp = spoon dipped in jar and however much stays on!
120g because I've 60 g measuring jug.
Salad depends what we've got.
