'How do you use your Nutritional Yeast (yeast flakes)?
I use this stuff all the time - yet a tub lasts me for a month or more.
I mix it with 'Free and Easy' Dairy Free cheese flavour sauce mix (phew!) and dairy free Parmazano grated hard cheese replacement (phew again!) to create a flavoursome sprinkle on my pasta.
I use it to flavour seitan; sprinkle it over my vegan pizzas; add it to bread dough - for breadsticks for instance and in making my own vegan cheese.
Err...that's all I can think of, ATM.
Over to you guys!

Now that you've discovered that making your own bread is easier than you thought, what else is there that isn't so difficult when you actually have a go? Like making your own pasta without a machine, for instance!

Hi Paul - as you know, I'm not vegan but I use 'nooch' just because I like it. I generally put a couple of spoonfuls in a nut roast mix and I like it sprinkled on pasta dishes instead of cheese.
Always pleased to hear of other ways of using it and love your idea of putting it in bread dough.

Well, you've convinced me to try some. Is it in a tub like a small bicarb one, or a big one like a Bisto tub? What is typical usage, e.g. level tspn, dessertspoon whatever? I know that's as long as a piece of string, so perhaps "per person portion" would be a good delimiter. Many thanks.

Hi jeral
It comes in a large tub - and it's sprinkled, as often as not. It's not like a bouillon powder - which you can add too much of in a stew, say - I eat this out of the tub when I have the lid off. It's very tasty - and low on calories.
357 calories for 100g - but there's only 125g in the whole tub.
Called Engevita, made by Marigold - cost about £2.50. Lasts for ages!
I've only seen it in my local HFS.

Hi Paul, and fellow nutritional yeast lovers.
I use it for stock. And have used the stock in making up quinoa recently.
And also in vegan dishes whenever the recipe asks for it.
Just nibbled out of the tube it's really rather lovely too.
This is what it looks like

Many thanks - I now know what I'm looking for - and without needing to bankroll it. My local independent HFS is very good, so will ask there
Edit PS: Now got some Engevita 125g £2.59 from health food shop I asked if they stocked it, reply "Oh yes, it's very popular". He didn't mention any further uses beyond the soups, stews and toppings as said on the tub.

This is something I've never got around to using, must try it. I use quite a lot of Vecon & been having trouble getting hold of it just lately, ran out of it a couple of months ago. Local HFS has stopped stocking it & it's not available in any supermarkets.

I bought mine from H&B and tried it only once. I wasn't sure about it, so haven't used it again, but probably will do now that I've seen all the ideas for using it. Thanks.
