Yeah, so much power.
Walk boy, don't run!
Milk monitor, nicely on topic Sakkarin.
Talking of which, I am using powdered milk whitener in my aeropress coffee at the moment. I quite like it.

You would have told me to stop chattering, Gill!
Funnily enough, I've been using Coffee Mate with my coffee occasionally. I quite like the effect. Which one have you been using, Gill?

Re: In praise of the Aeropress
Renee I've always liked those fake cream pots. So I use Aldi brand coffee whitener - along with WhiteFoodie's ethiopean coffee recommendation.
Actually, today I tried leaving the aeropress to brew for a minute.
And it made no difference to the coffee.
No need to faff, just make the coffee, sit and enjoy.

And there was me thinking I was a Philistine for adding "proper" milk...

Well, proper milk (soya) gets the frothy cappuccino treatment when I make the effort, Sakkarin.
Tony uses powdered marvel in his tea.
I once made up some powdered marvel for the painters at the art school. There was grumblings all day.

Re: In praise of the Aeropress
When I was in coffee specialist shops in the Netherlands, I asked the owners what they used in coffee and they said "whole milk". I've never been able to replicate the coffee that I drank in those places, even though I bought the recommended coffee beans. Off to Aldi tomorrow.
Re: In praise of the Aeropress
Just a note on my latest purchase, a replacement plunger rubber. I noticed a while back that the old one was getting a bit loose, but worked out a technique whereby I rolled the edge on the worksurface, and it made it fit without leaking using my favoured upside down method. Having got my new one though, I am reminded that a new rubber gives a far tighter seal than the worn one, which I have no doubt affects the quality of brew.
Coincidentally, the point where it in my view "wore out" was about 6 months ago, when the original 350 filters ran out. My recommendation: buy a new rubber seal at the same time as you replenish your filters.

Re: In praise of the Aeropress
Will do, Sakkarin.
Aeropress still going strong. A couple of times I've splurged coffee on the counter not in the cup though.
Renee.
Do you think they used UHT milk. Sometimes that can give you a foreign creamy coffeeness, that you don't get here?
Well I'm officially no longer a frootie tea drinker.
Am loving my coffee all over again!

Re: In praise of the Aeropress
I understand what you're saying, Gill! They do have special koffe melk (can't spell it), which is in cartons, sold in supermarkets and obviously UHT, so you're probably right. I suppose it's actually "cooked" milk, isn't it? The fat content is higher than our whole milk, but slightly less than evaporated milk.
I did have the idea of "cooking" some cream ... single, maybe? This might just add depth to the flavour of the coffee, if you see what I mean.

If you google "buy koffiemelk online", several sites come up that will ship to the uk.

Me too a couple of (or three) times when I've been in too much of a hurry
I also bought a third party aeropress metal filter, but it had a lip around the outside that proved too deep for the "screw top". That also splurged the two times I tried it. There seem to be perfectly flat ones available, they may do the job better, although the reviews say the taste is different than the paper filters.

Right you are.
I'll stick to the paper filters, ta.

Ha ha! Looks even dafter than the Phillipe Stark lemon squeezer! I'll stick with the Aeropress...

Incidentally I have tried a couple of Sainsbury's beans, their Fairtrade Expresso and Fairtrade Continental, which are incredible value at just £1.89 for 227g (although online it says they are £2.30). Didn't expect to like them, expecting them to be very strong, nevertheless the Continental is palatable, but they both have that "burnt" taste (I see on the Sainos website the first review mentions that...), the expresso too much so for me, to the extent that I'll probably throw the last half of the pack away.
BTW the Delonghi grinder is still going strong.

Re: In praise of the Aeropress
It looks a bit like bicycle handlebars! Have you seen the coffee grinder which has a handle? I've gone back to using an over the mug filter.
I bought a couple of packs of Extra Special, selected by Leith's School of Food and Wine, Ethiopian Mocha Limu 100% arabica roast and ground coffee, which was a Grocer Food & Drink Gold Winner, 2015 and was from Asda. I still prefer the one from Tesco that you recommended, Sakks.

Re: In praise of the Aeropress
Looks like one of those huge wine bottle openers.
Lavazza always seems to have an offer on, so I'm buying that all the time - the Rossa is the mellowest.
Aeropress still going strong.
Haven't gone as far as buying the beans yet as you both do. Maybe I should, it might improve my morning cuppa....

Re: In praise of the Aeropress
I like the ritual of grinding up the beans, Gill and the lovely aroma, of course. At the moment I'm using ground coffee.
